The crowned banner reading PATENT IRONSTONE CHINA is the classic Masons-type mark used on 19th-century ironstone (others copied it too). Masons registered Patent Ironstone China in 1813 and used crown-and-banner devices through the century.

The red ribbon cartouche reads Manufactured for Ducroz their retailer mark appears on ironstone pieces in museum collections.

Date

Given the Ducroz & Millidge retailer mark and the Masons-type banner, a safe date is c. 18351850 (late Georgian/early Victorian). Auction records show similar Masons services with a crowned banner plus a London retailer mark in the 1830s40s.

Pattern & style

The platters vivid over-glaze enamels, heavy gilt scrolls on a green ground, and shaped handles are very much in Masons taste of the 1830s40s (often called Chinese/Peony/Imari-influenced palettes).

How to double-check at home

The body feels heavy with a slightly warm, creamy glaze typical of early ironstone.

Care tips

Hand-wash only gently
