“From about 1830 through the rest of the century, there were a number of lithographic publishers in most eastern cities. The firm of Haskell & Allen was one of the chief rivals of the New York firm of Currier & Ives. FM Haskell started as a picture framer and print seller; listed in 1868 Boston directory as partner in Haskell & Ripley (18 Hanover St.). A year later he formed a partnership with George F. Allen. In 1873 they moved to 61 Hanover St. They prospered until about 1875, and they went bankrupt in April 1878.”
