Not a standard biopic, it tells the story of Yukio Mishima, a closeted artist and poet who wished to return Japan to what he thought of as the glory of imperialism. He became famous for committing ritual suicide when his military coup was unsuccessful, and Schrader takes us there by way of 4 of his short stories brought to gorgeous, colorful life.
