Very rare Navajo pendant/charm with turquoise & bell.
Cultural Significance: Traditionally worn so a husband could avoid his mother-in-law, as it was taboo for them to be in the same place. The bell’s soft chime alerted him to turn away.
A unique gift for the mother of the bride!
Lovely hand-stamped design with ringer intact.
Navajo handmade.
Size: .75” L x .5” W (from top of bail).
Mother-in-law bells are highly valued for their cultural and spiritual significance, and are hard to come by.
Condition: very old handmade piece (likely old pawn) with visible wear. We do not polish vintage silver, as collectors prefer natural patina. Scratches are visible on the back—assume they cannot be buffed out.
Highly collectible and sold as-is. Sterling silver, though the added c-ring above the bail may not be 925 (the piece is)
