Earl Cunningham:Painting An American Eden by Robert Hobbs.1994 1stEdition/1stPrinting Harry N Abrams hardcover w/dj in like new condition(small blemish on inside front page and spine of dj).Book dimensions are 10.8×1×10.2inches,2.2lbs.,140 pages. Earl Cunningham(1893-1977)is a little known self-taught artist who painted solely landscapes from such states as Georgia, Florida, and the Carolinas. He is labeled a "folk artist" but should be considered a modernist "vernacular" artist due to his incredible and extremely detailed style of incorporating minature artwork sections to comprise one total painting. For example, photo 11 is just the lower quarter of the entire painting in photo 10. Cunningham never considered himself to be a true "artist" and never wanted to sell or exhibit his artwork. His paintings gained fame only after his unfortunate death.Suffering from severe depression and paranoia the artist shot himself on Dec.29,1977.
